Service

Can you help me understand what a diagnostic code means?

Car diagnostic codes, or OBD-II codes, are numerical and alphanumeric codes generated by your vehicle’s onboard diagnostics system. They serve as a language between your car and a diagnostic tool, making it easier for mechanics to identify issues. These codes can represent various aspects of your vehicle, including the engine, transmission, emissions system, and more. Understanding these codes is crucial for effective vehicle maintenance and repair.

When a problem arises in your car’s systems, the OBD-II system records the issue and generates a specific code, illuminating the corresponding warning light on your dashboard. While this is a great first step in identifying issues, you’ll need an OBD-II scanner to read and interpret the code fully.
